this is a page i put on my site when Afghanistan was still ruled by the Taliban. it gives a good idea of what was going on there, and what still goes on when male fundamentalists have guns and power.

let us always remember and never forget. we are not free until we are all free.
YOU CANNOT LISTEN TO MUSIC IN AFGHANISTAN.
  SUPPORT AFGHAN WOMEN under the Taliban regime, women in Afghanistan have been stripped of all basic human rights. women in Afghanistan today have to be completely covered. the burquas they must wear have mesh in front of their faces so that no one can see their eyes, and the women cannot see outside clearly. women cannot even uncover their faces when they are being executed.

WOMEN ARE TREATED AS SUB-HUMAN
  WOMEN CANNOT WORK TO FEED THEMSELVES women are not allowed to have an education. learning how to read is a crime punishable by death.

women are not given even the most basic healthcare. female doctors are not allowed to practice and men do not treat women.

the only choices available to a majority of women living in Afghanistan right now are:

prostitution
begging
suicide
waiting to be raped by Taliban soliders
trying not to get hit on the head by a US bomb or a food drop of peanut butter

STOP "OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM" (apparently the US definition of freedom is something to be endured and not enjoyed)

the US "humanitarian effort" (dropping miniscule amounts of inappropriate food) is a propaganda tool to try and deflect attention from what the US is really doing to the civilians of Afghanistan.
if we don't stop our "humanitarian" mission soon, millions of Afghan women, children and men will starve this winter.

too bad the civilians have to endure our freedom. RAWA is a group fighting for a secular and democratic Afghanistan. why don't we support them?

WOMEN MUST BEG FOR FOOD TO FEED THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILDREN AND I THOUGHT GENOCIDE WAS A CRIME ACCORDING TO THE WORLD COMMUNITY

the Taliban is carrying out a systematic
ethnic cleansing program to rid Afghanstan of
all minorities.

women cannot wear white socks.

women cannot laugh out loud.

women must paint their windows black (if they are lucky
enough to have a roof over their
heads--which under the current USA bombing
attacks is more and more unlikely) so that no one can see them.

the Northern Alliance, which is US is currently arming to fight the Taliban, is another extremist fundamentalist group. women would fare no better under their rule.
